Best GPS Unit: Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx
My GPS unit of choice is the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. I have used it in several backcountry locations in Texas, Arkansas, Colorado, and others and have never had any issues with signal strength or accuracy. On many occasions, this thing has practically saved my life on the trail especially when I relied on it completely during an off-trail bushwhack in Big Bend National Park. This unit is easy to operate and also supports uploading of different topo maps, waypoints, trails, etc. Battery life is excellent as is the color screen.
There are many different accessories that can be purchased for this unit including various chargers and carrying cases. The carrying case is a good option especially if you plan on using the unit a lot outdoors. The case will protect the screen from scratches and is even partially waterproof.
This is a classic GPS unit and if you're in the market for one, I would seriously consider giving this model a try. Garmin has always been at the forefront of GPS technology and this unit is no different.
